We’ve all heard the horror stories from family, friends, even coworkers about how they needed work done on their home, decided to go with the least expensive option and then paid greatly on the back side of the project. Roofing is no exception. There are always going to be misleading, corner cutting, untrustworthy, and ill equipped people in every industry who maybe are a smooth talker and present their discounted pricing as if everyone else is “just trying to steal from you”. The saying is: “You pay for what you get”. In roofing it’s no different. So here are sine tips to help you pick the best roofing company for your next project.
1. Make sure the company is licensed, insured, registered with the BBB, having a well recognized certification within the industry (for example being GAF Master Elite) is a major bonus, and has a strong/good online presence (website, can be easily found online, home office is real and current working phone number, etc.).
2. Reviews & references-look up reviews and ask for personal references of clients they-the person knocking on your door-has built (meaning they have worked from beginning to end with from this year). If they bulk at this or tell you they don’t have any readily available-red flag!
3. Never let someone who knocks on your door just hop onto your roof. If they are not properly insured and fall/get hurt they can come after you to cover their medical expenses.
4. If it sounds too good to be true-it probably is. As in if they are saying they can get you a “free new roof!” or “I can totally cover your deductible!”, “You can get your roof replaced through a class Action lawsuit!”-run away!
5. If they are heavily pushing you to file a claim on the spot be weary. Ask them if they are providing you with a Public Adjuster to handle the claim process on their behalf. We’ve worked a lot with clients who were pressured into filing a claim and then were denied because it was not filed properly. You do not want that.
6. If you’re not going through your insurance and just paying for a new roof out of pocket get a few quotes from equal level companies. Also, use your head. If most quotes are 10-12k and someone comes in with a quote for 5k this is not the time to be frugal-and be concerned how they are planning to cover your entire new roofing system at such a heavily discounted price. That money is coming off somewhere-Skill? Workmanship? Materials? Labor? Warranties? Quality?
There are a lot of great contractors and roofers out there, but just like any industry there are some who are doing it the wrong way, are very uneducated, and are trying to massively cut corners. We are happy to come by any of your homes and complete a complimentary, no obligation inspection. We have had a major storms rock all of Georgia this year, and waiting until you have a leak is a catastrophic mistake. Understand that having a new roofing system installed (the right way) will only increase your property value & the overall neighborhoods property value.
So what are you waiting for? Contact us today to schedule your roof inspection because you don’t know what you don’t know!
